River Plate reject Napoli offer for young defender

Serie A giants Napoli have reportedly seen an offer refused by River Plate for defender Emanuel Mammana.

With uncertainty surrounding centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly amid interest from various clubs across Europe, the Partenopei are in search of reinforcements, and Mammana may fit the bill.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Napoli have already seen their initial offer in the region of â‚¬6 million for the Argentine promptly rejected by River Plate, who are holding out for a figure closer to €10 million.

A central defender by trade, Mammana can also be deployed as a right-back, another position at which coach Luciano Spalletti is looking to strengthen.

Injuries have restricted the 20-year-old to just eight appearances this season for Los Millonarios.

Mammana has already represented the Argentina national side once and was a star for their youth sides, with a total of 26 caps at the various age levels.
