Robert Lewandowski left out of Barcelona squad to face Viktoria Plzen

Robert Lewandowski has been left out of Barcelona's squad for their final Champions League match of the season against Viktoria Plzen.

Barcelona travel to the Czech Republic with nothing to play for, guaranteed to finish third in their group regardless of the result.

After losing twice to Bayern Munich and once to Inter, Xavi and Co's Champions League campaign is at an end, but they will at least go into the Europa League with Viktoria Plzen four points behind and thus unable to take third from them.

Given the match's lack of importance, the manager has opted not to include Lewandowski in his squad for it, instead opting to rest the 34-year-old for this dead-rubber.

He's not the only first-team player not in the squad, with usual backup striker Memphis Depay out injured along with defenders Eric Garcia, Jules Kounde, Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen and Sergi Roberto.

Sergio Busquets will also be unavailable through suspension and therefore may have played his last-ever Champions League for the club as he approaches the end of his contract at Camp Nou.

Ferran Torres and Ansu Fati will be the players in contention to start up-front in place of Lewandowski, while Gerard Pique and Marcos Alonso will almost certainly be the team's central defenders for the match as Xavi has to get creative to combat a defensive injury crisis.

Xavi could also give chances to youth players such as Marc Casado and Alvaro Sanz.
