Russia 2018 Asian Qualifiers: United Arab Emirates v Japan preview

Published on: 22 March 2017

Al Ain: Fourth meets second in Al Ain as the UAE and Japan face off in a mouthwatering clash with both sides’ eyes firmly fixed on a top-two position and with it automatic World Cup qualification.

The Emiratis ran out surprise 2-1 winners in Japan on Matchday One but are not infallible at home, having won one and lost one of their two games to date. Mahdi Ali’s side will also be without suspended midfielder Tariq Ahmed.

Opponents Japan bounced back well from that opening-day defeat by claiming three wins and a draw from their next four games as the Samurai Blue’s bid to reach Russia 2018 gathered momentum.
