Russia 2018 Asian Qualifiers: Uzbekistan v Qatar preview

Published on: 27 March 2017

Tashkent: Uzbekistan will target a positive response to the defeat to Syria last week when Qatar travel to Bunyodkor Stadium on Matchday Seven of the FIFA World Cup Russia 2018 qualifying campaign.

A win would have lifted the Central Asians into second place in Group A but Omar Khrbin’s injury-time penalty now leaves Uzbekistan, who will be without the suspended Islom Tukhtakhujaev, with a major fight to secure a top-three position as Syria lurk just a point behind in fourth.

Qatar, meanwhile, would move to within two points of their opponents should they claim an unlikely win in Tashkent. Boualem Khoukhi and Abdelkarim Hassan are both suspended, while defender Ahmed Yasser and forward Meshaal Abdulla are available for selection after serving their bans.
