Ghana coach Avram Grant's agent is backtracking over his criticism of the country's top-flight league with a U-turn by claiming that he did not slam the league's even though there is irrefutable evidence that he berated the quality of the competition.
Saif Rubie has been forced to come out of deny his earlier claims about the Ghana Premier League after the Ghana Football Association (GFA) launched a scathing attack on him over the comments.
The GFA issued a strongly worded press statement condemning Rubie's interview with the BBC that sought to berate the competition in Ghana thus justifying Avram Grant's long absence from the country and the lack of his monitoring of the Ghana Premier League.
Rubie suggested that the quality of the Ghana league effectively rules players out of Grant’s squads.
"Any player that does well in Ghana goes to play in second or third division teams in Europe or Asia in places like Thailand and Vietnam and obviously for Avram, these are not the kind of players he will look to pick for the national team so the pool of players in the Ghanaian league is not the standard that it should be," he told the BBC last week.
The agent's interview with the BBC led to the GFA stern response that urgent Rubie to steer clear of Ghana football.
However, the agent has made as astonishing U-turn by denying that he never criticised the Ghana Premier League.
"I never said anything like that about the league. What I said was that as soon as players achieve any success, they move out of Ghana,†he told Kumasi based Otec FM.
"I never said anything about the league not being competitive, so you need to get your facts right, everybody has an opinion, no problem. For I deal with facts, I don’t deal with fiction.
"Anyway, I am not the coach of the national team, it is Avram Grant, whatever he wants to do, and he will do.
"Like I said to be honest, the issues are deeper than my interview, so it is not up to me to decide what the people, the media and the GFA should do about it or won’t do about and that is another conversation."
The Ghana FA says the final of the FA Cup match between Medeama and Kotoko with the capacity crowd and beautiful play is an example of talents existing in Ghana.
Almost all the players in the Ghana national team played in the league before travelling to play for European countries.
