Sam Kerr in the running for The Best FIFA Women’s Player Award

Kuala Lumpur: Australia’s Sam Kerr has been nominated for the The Best FIFA Women’s Player Award, announced on Thursday.

The 23-year-old was in the starting 11 against the DPR Korea in the 2010 AFC Women’s Asian Cup final where she scored the opening goal. They claimed their first title after winning the penalty shootout 5.4.

Currently with the New Jersey side Sky Blue FC in the United States, Kerr is among the all-time leading scorers in the USA’s National Women’s Soccer League.

Kerr recently made headlines after scoring a hat-trick against Japan in the Tournament of Nations, steering the Matildas to a 4-2 win on Matchday Two.

The former Sydney FC and Perth Glory striker played a crucial role in assisting the Matildas thrash Brazil 6-2 and win the title.

Kerr will no doubt be a key player for the Matildas in their 2018 AFC Women’s Asian Cup campaign in Jordan, as they look to avenge their 2014 final defeat to Japan.
