Sami Khedira rules out MLS; hopes Emre Can joins Juventus

Paulo Dybala and Sami Khedira were subbed off due to injury before Federico Bernardeschi found a winner for Juventus at Cagliari.

Juventus midfielder Sami Khedira says he is not considering a move to Major League Soccer since he feels he still has plenty to give in one of Europe's top leagues, while he has advised his club to make their move for Emre Can.

Khedira, 30, still has a contract with the Serie A club through to 2019 and he has told Sky Sport Italia that he does not expect that to be his last contract in Europe, as he insists that a move to MLS would not make sense.

"Now I'm 30 and what I can say is that the age is just a number, so you have to take care of your body and you have to know what you want. I can tell you that I'm still hungry and I want to win everything," the Germany international said.

"In this case, I want to play many, many years more in Europe -- in one of the top leagues in Europe. Now I am in Italy and this is, for me, one of the best leagues in the world -- one of the top four -- so I don't know why people speak about MLS.

"I played 46 games I think last year -- more than before in my whole career. This year the same. Physically I'm in the best shape of my life so why should I go to MLS and lose this big opportunity to play many years in Europe? So I never said [that I wanted] this and I can tell you and promise you that there is no possibility I am going in January or even in the summer to MLS. I want to stay in Europe."

Sami Khedira says he hopes he is playing alongside Emre Can at Juventus next season.

Khedira said he would like to sign an extension to his current contract with the Bianconeri.

"I'm super happy here at Juventus," he said. "I arrived two-and-a-half years ago and it was not easy to change because the mentality in Italy and Juventus is different to Madrid and also Germany.

"Now I know how football works in Italy and how it should work here at Juventus. I'm happy here, I really like the city, the life here the fans -- I love the fans -- and I can feel the love of the fans.

"So if I can imagine to renew my contract here? Yes, of course, because of this reason, I am super happy here and I'm back on the top level, so this is of course an opportunity."

With or without a new contract, Khedira said he can see him still playing for Juve next season in what he hopes will be a partnership with Germany teammate Can.

Liverpool midfielder Can continues to be linked with a free transfer to Turin in the summer and Khedira says he would welcome his compatriot with open arms.

"I know him well," Khedira said. "He's young, strong and very talented. Given his age, he's still got some learning and growing to do. So if there were the possibility of Juventus to sign him, I would take this opportunity in a flash.

"He's out of contract in the summer, so if I were a director, yes, I would sign him immediately."
