Sammy Kuffour admits he regrets not winning any silverware with Ghana

Sammy Kuffuor says that his Ghana playing career represented ‘regrets’ and if he could do one thing again it would be winning silverwares with the Black Stars.

The 38-year-old is one of the few most successful Ghanaian players to have graced the pitch having won several titles in Europe with German giants Bayern Munich.

However the former AS Roma defender, who remains the only Ghanaian to have represented the West African at all the national team levels,  never won anything at the international stage.

He says his failure to replicate his club career success at the international level, remains his biggest regret.

“We couldn’t win anything and for me that is the sad thing in my life,”  Kuffuor told Radio XYZ

“Sometimes when I sit down and analyze my life in terms of football and realize that I couldn’t win anything for the senior national team, it pains me.

“There’s nothing that I can be proud of and show to my children that I won whilst playing for the Black Stars.

“It was great for me playing at the World Cup in 2006 because that is the dream of every footballer but absolutely there’s nothing special about playing for Ghana apart from the jersey that I used at the World Cup”

“I have no medal to show to my children in future and that is the regret I have for playing for the Black Stars”.

“It saddens my heart so much that I served my nation for years without winning any medal.”

Kuffuor won over 59 caps for Ghana in a career which spanned over 13 years.
