Samuel Afum headed the opener for Young Boys at Basel

Samuel Afum stole the show in the Swiss Super League top-liner as he came off the bench to score a prolific finish for Young Boys in their 2-1 reverse at giants FC Basel on Sunday.

The 'Yellow and Blacks' had held their host at the St. Jakob Park with great determination but failed to find the back of the net until Afum arrived in the 55th after being introduced by tactician Uli Forte.

And there was nothing like a spectacular strike from the Ghanaian international that sent the travelling fans into wild jubilation as he claimed the opener with a great finish in the 71st minute.

The former Hearts of Oak man worked himself into space, eluded the defence and powered in a header from a corner.

Voser, Degen and Ivanov were all supposed to keep Afum in check but the sentinels could stand and admire the power with energy with which he went up and steered the ball into goal for the visitors.

But right after Afum had given them the lead, they went to sleep and Basel equalised and claimed the match winner within a space of 60 seconds.
