Sarri: It’s a bit much to think of Napoli as a big Champions League side

Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri was more cautious than his star striker Gonzalo Higuain when thinking about the side’s chances for next season’s Champions League campaign.

The Argentine forward stated that he wanted to break Serie A goalscoring records and make the Partenopei a force in Europe, but his boss was a bit more grounded.

“I am happy with Higuain’s objectives, but at the moment the team is at the forefront of everything,” said Sarri to reporters before the Torino game.

“If Higuain reaches one of his objectives, then we are all happy, but for Napoli to be one of the main sides in the Champions League seems a little excessive to me.”

The Azzurri boss also offered his insight on the Granata ahead of the match in Turin with Napoli looking to ensure they finish above Roma and qualify directly to the Champions League.

“We want to win but I don’t understand this idea that we absolutely must win,” added Sarri.

“Torino are better than their points tally suggests, they have one of the best Italian coaches around.

“They might have less weighing on them mentally so they could start well, we have to count on being more motivated.”
