Dubai: Former AFC Player of the Year Nasser Al Shamrani has joined 2017 AFC Champions League hopefuls Al Ain on a six-month loan deal from Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal, it has been announced.

Al Shamrani arrives in the United Arab Emirates after the Garden City club opted to cancel the deal they had in place for Ivorian Yannick Boli who had been presented to the media as an Al Ain player on Monday.

“I will do my best to achieve the objectives of the club and for the happiness of the Al Ain fans,” said the 33-year-old Saudi Arabia international forward who was named Asia’s leading player in 2014.

"When a footballer’s name is associated with Al Ain club, his aspirations should have no limits. Any player on the continent wishes to wear this team’s jersey, the kit of the leader who was close to winning last year’s Asian Champions League.

“My ambitions with Al Ain are to win local championships and the Asian title in 2017. I look forward to contributing to achieving strong results with my teammates."

Al Shamrani is set to replace Brazilian Douglas in an Al Ain side that currently finds itself second in the United Arab Emirates Pro League standings, and just weeks away from an 2017 AFC Champions League Group Stage opener against Zobahan from the Islamic Republic of Iran on February 21.
