Have your say: Which players should be left out of Ghana's World Cup squad

Published on: 06 March 2014
Ghana playing against Montenegro

After a dreadful 1-0 defeat against Montenegro, one thing is clear: Not all the players touted by some fans should make Ghana's World Cup squad.

The Black Stars were very lucky with the tie because the Brave Warriors certainly put them in distress with speed and strength which gave coach Kwesi Appiah the needed stern test.

Appiah needed to give some fringe players the chance in the match against Montenegro because it was the only chance he had to see them before unveiling his final 23-man list.

It is true that the team was never going to have the same functionality that we had seen in previous games because several players who started the match had struggled to play in recent matches for the Black Stars.

The 4-4-2 system was challenging for some of them. Christian Atsu suffered in the first half because he was played on the right side of midfield when he is very effective on the left.

Jerry Akaminko looked assured at the back partnering John Boye while Daniel Opare's versatility was demonstrated in the match after he moved to the left-back from his favourite right-back position.

Inkoom looked very confident when he came on for David Addy, who looked jittery after giving away the penalty at the start but recovered to put in a decent shift.

Jordan Ayew also took his time to adjust, but after the coach took out and repositioned the Sochaux striker in the center of the attack he showed his true colors.

It was clear that the top top players like Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari, Kevin-Prince Boateng, Andre Ayew, captain Asamoah Gyan, Kwadwo AsamoahAbdul Majeed Waris, John Boye, Adam Kwarasey and Emmanuel Agyemang Badu cannot be ignored by coach Appiah.

Their presence and experience at the highest level brought some urgency in the Ghana team when some of them were given the chance to play in the match.

So which are the ones that should not have a ticket to Brazil? Let's hear from you in our COMMENTS BOX below:

Well , ghana will do well even if we send Kumasi 11 to Brazil . All we need to do now as Ghanaians is to rally all support for the black stars. 2006 we all thought ghana will crash out but what happened it took Brazil to knock us out . I wonder what a tournament it will be if we didn't meet Brazil in the 1/16th. 2010 was no different , a young team full of inexperience under 21 players still made it to the quarter finals. Luis Suarez . Hmm no comment. Let's all be proud that we are Ghanaians and pray for the black stars.

Ideal Ghana XI Essien or KPB could be replaced with Badu or Muntari

I love the decorous exchange between keith and keleele. This is what such platforms are supposed to be used for - informed and decorous arguments and deliberations and not the kinds of vituperation that some people throw at others without any provocation.

I think Akwesi Appiah have to keep the same people, despite the lose. The boys are good. They can make wonders in Brazil. Black Stars will lose to U.S if they set their foot on U.S soil for any friendly match, as it has been said. Am warning Akwesi Appiah, Asamoah Gyan and GFA not to try anything at all in the enemies teritory before the world cup, except they are going there for bribe.

Kwesi Appiah wanted to test which players? Can you point out any rookie in the team? Did we go there with an agenda to lose? Why did he call Dede if he wasn't going to be useful? Why did AA did his substitutions too late in the game? Are you not ashamed as a Ghanaian to be beaten by Montenegro by the watching eyes of the entire world? 37 GHANA 733 -13 Down 38 Egypt 729 -7 Down 38 Iran 729 -4 Down 40 Honduras 716 3 Up 41 Peru 704 1 Up 42 Turkey 703 3 Up 43 Austria 678 4 Up 44 Hungary 673 2 Up 45 Tunisia 656 -1 Down 46 Cameroon 626 4 Up 47 Nigeria 616 -6 Down 48 Iceland 613 1 Up 49 Paraguay 603 2 Up 50 Japan 601 -2 Down 51 Wales 598 4 Up 52 MONTENEGRO 594 0 Equal

This is a friendly game and some players dont need to be tested because they have passed the test that is why you saw some of the top players benched.

Keith from Germany you were making sense until you brought the issue of Kwarasey playing well against whites. Its wierd and absurd for you to make this hypothesis. Just simplify it, he had a bit of awkward moments during the 2012 AFCON and we'll let you off.I just feel he will be better motivated than the other goalkeepers going into the world cup and should be made the first choice. He has to justify this though at both club level and the friendlies before the world cup.

Kwesi Appiah needs a serious and urgent help from a reputable Technical Director before we step foot in Brazil. He has NO experience whatsoever to meet the best coaches in the world of soccer. We have excellent players than all the five African participating countries, Appiah has no clue of an effective way to use them. Why did Dede remain on the bench for 90 minutes when the team is losing?

Thank u guys for seeing the real stuff. Addy was very good and his ball control was great. U cant take one mistake to judge a player because we ghanains are fond of doing that. AA must realise that mistakes are always made as he himself has been making mistakes. In the next game i will try baba rahman who to me is very faster than david addy. His overlapping is awesome. AA must from now on give kwarasey the chance because he always performs well against white colored ppl. He did it against brazil and chile.and yesterday we saw that if u give kwarasey the chance and u put confidence in him,he will never let you down. Since both germanyand usa all flopped yesterday eventhough germany won,im a lil bit relieved that is not only ghana that underperformed in the friendlies yesterday. Good that AA has called now called on milovan Rajevac for some important advices

Too bad because besides the first 8 chaotic seconds, Addy showed a convincing performance. And a right-footed Opare as a left-back in the second half looked always worrying too. So I hope Afful shrugs off the competition with a stellar performance.

Addy had a good game, recovered well after, we have to maintain him and groom him into the team.. Many players have made mistakes like J.Akaminko AFCON he committed a serious penalty, Opare, inkoom and afful have all made mistakes. Addy is good, I would take him to World Cup . He is a starter for his portuguese team with 50+ games under his belt, he was probably just having a nervous start. There is currently no better natural left that could back up Harrison Afful at the WC in brasil

I agree, David Addy put up a convincing performance after the penalty, he recovered well , if it was not for his tactical substitution he would have had a nice game. Ghanaians let's stop writing players off after just one game. He made a mistake but he is good. Jerry Akaminko committed a penalty in AFCON and gh people were ready to throw him off the team, but look after been given more chances he has proven himself.

I think this squad should go to the World Cup in Brazil, with the addition of 3 more players.. It was obvious that all the boys yesterday were good players, mistakes were made but they are forgivable, it's time we stick to one squad and groom them together

It looks likes Addy will not be back even though watching the penalty he gave away doesn't look warranted to me.if the coach can call call that ainooson guy it will be great.

Apart from the penalty david addy put up a convincing perfomance and should be heading to the world cup

I don't have nothing to say before our friendly game against the Netherlands is over, you.can't use just a game to judge some of our players... Lack of concentration and a surprise cause us the game. Even the lost game will help us to be alerted when playing the likes of Germany,France, Brazil. The Portugal team I see yesterday against Cameroon is not so strong, I have been saying it here take out C. Ronaldo and it over, Cameroon lost the game due to defensive blunders, I watched how Cameroon handled Portugal to 70 minutes before calamity happened...that why I use to say in soccer even 2 seconds counts
