Schalke 04 teenager Max Meyer has sent a message to Ghana midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng to compete with him for the club’s No.10 position for next season.

Boateng had recently declared his intention of playing in the playmaker role for the Royal Blues by replacing Meyer.

But the 18-year-old, who played 30 matches and scored six goals last season, he is not ready to relinquish that role.

“He (Kevin-Prince Boateng) can say what he wants, he has his freedom but I would also like to play on the No.10 position. That is clear," he told RevierSport in an interview.

Schalke have refused to release Meyer for the European U-19 Championship later this month so he can concentrate fully on the competition in the club’s midfield.

"Of course I would have loved to play for Germany. That's always an honor for any player. But what the club has said, I accept it of course. And I am also behind it."
