Serbian trainer Doncic linked to AshGold job

Ghanaian Premier League side AshGold are set to open talks with Serbian coach Danilo Doncic about taking over as new head coach with Yaw Acheampong's imminent exit.

The 43-year-old arrived in Accra last Saturday and watched the Dwarfs and Kotoko stalemate at the Robert Mensah Sport Stadium on Sunday.

The Miners are set to part ways with former captain Yaw Acheampong who has led the club through a dismal run before being asked to step aside for their trip to Accra last Sunday.

His arrival has put officials at Obuase on high alert as they are looking at the possibility of hiring him replacement for Yaw Acheampong who is not likely to return.

The AshGold hierarchy were weighing the option of handing the job to assistant coach Kamara Dini who led to the club to break their 14-year jinx against Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

But Doncic, who was manager at Bulgarian giants PFC Lokomotiv Sofia between 2008 and 2010, is likely to land the job.

"I arrived on Saturday and moved to Cape Coast to watch the game on Sunday so there has been no contact from any club yet," he told Accra-based Happy FM.
