Serie A 2015-16: Team Of The Week – Round 22

Published on: 01 February 2016

Napoli and Juventus continue their winning streaks in Serie A, respectively six and 12 in a row, taking up a big part in this week’s best eleven.

Only three teams make up this week’s team: as well as Partenopei and Bianconeri, the rest of the Team of the Week is made of AC Milan players, as the Rossoneri won the Derby della Madonnina against Inter thanks to wonderful performances by M’Baye Niang and Keisuke Honda, amongst others, who all feature this week.

Our Team of the Week will see an attacking 3-4-3 formation deployed.

Gianluigi Donnarumma – AC Milan (2 Team of the Week appearances)

It is never easy to maintain a clean sheet in a derby, and to do it with such calmness and composure at his age is just impressive. A wonderful save on Mauro Icardi too.

Ignazio Abate – AC Milan

On the side that was of many great right backs, Abate for once stands up to the Rossoneri’s best level. Careful at the back and pushing up front: an important role in Milan’s derby victory.

Alex – AC Milan

The Brazilian shows everyone the defender he has become famous as; rock solid at the back and a consistent goal scorer up front. Gave Milan the lead in the derby.

Andrea Barzagli – Juventus (3 apps)

The usual consistency and practicality for the experienced Juve player. A clean sheet at Chievo, contributing to the Bianconeri’s 12th consecutive win.

Keisuke Honda – AC Milan

Started slowly in the derby, before running and resulting decisive with the assist for Alex’s header and in starting several of Milan’s attacks.

Juraj Kucka – AC Milan

The heart of the Milan midfield, running for 90 minutes and annihilating Gary Medel. He was also a constant threat to the Inter back four with some important runs up front.

Paul Pogba – Juventus (3 apps)

What he did on 92 minutes in the game against Chievo is probably enough to include him. A wonderful touch and a shot blasted on the bar; could have been his second after a wonder goal earlier in the second half. Absolute quality again from Pogba.

Jose Callejon – Napoli

The winger was scoring less this season, they said. No problem, a brace against Empoli to be added to his crucial defensive work that frees Gonzalo Higuain and Lorenzo Insigne.

M’Baye Niang – AC Milan (2 apps)

A beautiful assist and a powerful goal that killed Inter in the middle of the second half: absolutely decisive in a fundamental evening.

Alvaro Morata – Juventus

Morata is finally with us! Two goals, a great game, and the best possible way to replace injured Mario Mandzukic. Like last season, the Spaniard blossoms in the second part of the season, giving Massimiliano Allegri an extra weapon.

Lorenzo Insigne – Napoli (6 apps)

What a free kick, as well as the usual assist for Higuain. Insigne has already scored double his record of goals in a single Serie A season, and can only do better. Helped his teammates demolish Empoli.
