Hearts refused to renew the contract of Gilbert Fiamenyo because he was 'ageing, at just 24, a top official has sensationally claimed.

Hackman Aidoo, the administrative manager of the club said the club had concerns about his age.

Hearts released the former Heart of Lions striker following the expiration of his contract.

Fiamenyo came under heavy criticism during his stint with the club with claims he under-performed.

The striker has insisted he refused contract extension to seek a fresh challenge elsewhere.

But Hearts administrative manager has sensationally revealed the players' age concerns worked against him.

“We thought he was ageing so we wanted to extend his contract for just a year but he insisted on signing two years, so we decided to let him go," he told Accra-based Starr FM

“His performance over the years has come down drastically and we believe giving him a longer contract will not be to our benefit”.

“We all know the real ages of players in the country. We don’t need to go there.

“The way Fiamenyo plays today is not the way he used to play five six years ago. He is not as good as he used to be in the past”.
