Premier League newcomers Fulham have reportedly tabled an £8million bid for Swansea City attacker Jordan Ayew after the Swans were relegated to the Championship, but Rafa Benitez should seriously consider matching Fulham's offer.

Sky Sports' Transfer Centre claimed on Wednesday that Fulham were looking to test Swansea's resolve with the seven-figure offer for Ayew, who finished the season as Swansea's top scorer.

The 26-year-old, who plays alongside brother Andre following his return to the club from West Ham in January, scored 11 goals in all competitions - with seven of those coming in the Premier League.

Ayew has netted 15 goals in 80 Premier League appearances, a record of one in every six games. But when you consider that he has been used out on the wing just as much as up front for Aston Villa and Swansea, his record is not that bad.

Now, Fulham want the Ghana international to forefront their bid to remain in the Premier League come May 2019, but Newcastle need more firepower up front and Ayew's versatility makes him the best signing.

The Toon need a winger, with Kenedy likely to return to Chelsea after his loan finished on Tyneside. A permanent deal is unlikely, with the likes of Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal all linked with the Brazilian.

Christian Atsu struggled with multiple injuries last term while Jacob Murphy is yet to prove his £12m fee. Up front, The Toon are crying out for a striker, following the disappointing signings of Joselu and Islam Slimani.

Atsu's national teammate Ayew is renowned for his speed, power, passionate displays but most importantly his versatility, which would give Benitez an option both out wide and up front.
