Ghanaian midfielder Siedu Yahaya's dream of winning a first Premier League and State Cup double was scuttled on Wednesday night after his side Maccabi Haifa lost 1-0 to Hapoel Tel Aviv.
Haifa had all the momentum on its side entering the final, beating Tel Aviv to the league title and outplaying the Reds when the teams last met three-and-a-half weeks ago.
However, Hapoel was clearly the hungrier team on Wednesday and Salim Toama's sensational goal in the second minute was enough to give Eli Gutmanââ¬â¢s side the cup.
Hapoelââ¬â¢s celebrations at the final whistle were more special than usual, as much of Tel Avivââ¬â¢s squad looks set to disperse across Europe this summer, with coach Gutman announcing after the match that he too will not be back next season.
