Ten Ghanaian players set for UEFA Champions League Group stage

Ten Ghanaian players have their clubs in this season's Group phase of the UEFA Champions League.

Group E-which has Chelsea, Nordsjælland, Juventus and Shakhtar Donetsk-is likely to face five Ghanaian players in action.

If out-of-favour Michael Essien remains at Stamford before the the transfer window shuts on Friday he will be in contention.

The midfielder has been on the bench in Chelsea opening three matches of the season.

His future has been speculated and the 29-year-old has been linked with a move to Fenerbahce.

Italian champions Juventus have midfield gem Kwadwo Asamoah and youngster Richmond Boakye-Yiadom if he stays.

Danish champions Nordsjælland will present Enoch Adu Kofi and new signing Kamal Issah.

Romanian champions CFR Cluj-who have signed Ghana Under-20 midfielder Godfred Adofo-face a daunting task against Manchester United, Sporting Braga and Galatasary.

AC Milan have duo Kevin-Prince Boateng and Sulley Muntari for their matches against Zenit St Peterburg, Anderlecht and Malaga in Group C.

Whiz kid Christian Atsu is on FC Porto's roster for the matches against Dynamo Kyiv, Paris Saint-Germain and Dinamo Zagreb.

Emmanuel Frimpong will be available for Arsenal if he recovers from his long lay-off as they face Schalke, Olympiacos and Montpellier.

The Group stage matches will be played from September 18 to December 5, 2012.
