Sixth Workers' Cup a huge success in Doha

The 2018 Workers' Cup came to a thrilling conclusion as 7,500 spectators at the Al Duhail Stadium in Doha watched Al Nakheel Landscapes win the sixth edition of the tournament.

Sponsored by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (the body tasked with the delivery of infrastructure required for the country to host the FIFA World Cup™) in collaboration with the Qatar Stars League (QSL), the Workers' Cup is held each year to show appreciation to those who have worked tirelessly to ensure Qatar 2022 will be a success.

This year’s tournament saw over 640 players in 32 teams compete in the unique footballing event, with 12 of these teams representing current or former contractors on Qatar 2022 projects and seven were engaged with the SC’s flagship CSR programme, Generation Amazing.

A near capacity crowd watched the Doha Pest Control Team face off against Al Nakheel Landscapes. Among the special guests in attendance was Barcelona legend Xavi, who currently plays for Qatari side Al Sadd.

In his remarks after the final, Hassan Al Thawadi, Secretary General of the SC said: “It is such an honour to witness the incredible passion both on the pitch and in the stands during this tournament, which keeps getting bigger and better every year. Congratulations to Al Nakheel Landscapes team for a hard-earned victory. I hope them, their colleagues and everyone who’s been involved with this year’s tournament has a chance to celebrate this achievement.”

The tournament ended with the spectacular prize‐giving ceremony, which ended in Al Nakheel Landscapes lifting the champions trophy.
