Slovakian club FC Nitra have unveiled Ghana defender John Mensah as their new signing a few months to the 2014 World Cup.

The 31-year-old has joined Torgari for the remainder of the season as he looks to gatecrash the Ghana squad for the World Cup in June

Mensah has been without a club since leaving French club Stade Rennes at the end of the last European season.

The strong defender took extensive time off while in his native Ghana in order to recover from a nagging back injury which threatened to curtail his professional career.

Mensah now gets the big break he has been looking for some time now by joining the Slovakian club who are in great need of some defensive solidity after conceding 47 goals in 20 league matches.

The former Sunderland loanee can also boost his chances of making the Black Stars squad for the World Cup if he is able to prove his fitness andform at FC Nitra with 13 games to the end of the domestic season.

Mensah remains one of the most revered Ghanaian defenders and will be a welcome addition to the Black Stars squad but only if he passes the litmus test of good health and form.

Dear Ghana Coach-Akwasi Appiah, Please invite John Mensah for the world cup because he is not interested with the captainship. If you think Asamoah Gyan should wear the captain band that is okey with John Mensah. You better listen. Concern Ghana Citizen

I'm really happy for John Mensah but honestly speaking he doesn't has to go to brasil. I think he has done his part as a Ghanaian but if Akwasi Appiah decide to take him to the mundial, he has to make sure John will be able to run the the expected time required from a player in 100m.there's nothing like standing 5 in modern football, asuch an old John mensah with all the experience will still be a bomb!

I wonder who who are our scouts, My problem with AA and the GFA is their short sight when it comes to player monitoring. Due to favouritism, they limit their scouting to setting players. Jeffrey schlup was a delight to watch yesterday against Leicester vs charton. He is a striker but is also comfortable playing on left full back which he excelled yesterday. His huge flame and his ability to play as a striker will be a plus for the stars but yet annoying Akwasi Appiah keeps calling average Afful. Schlup will be playing in the EPL come next season, he defend and track back very well . Another young chap is Drobo Ampem of Esbjerg, he was st his best in the UEFA league last week, another huge young chap who can play on the left back and as centre back. Yet AA keeps calling Awal and Sumaila who are all struggling for a playing time with their average SA club . From the look of thing, we're clearly third favourite in our club but nothing is been done to improve the weakest department in the team, ie left and right full back. I don't wanna be a prophet of doom but opare, Inkoom and Afful are not players that we can relia on as a country aiming to qualify to the semis. Thus why I've been calling for Akaminko and wakaso to play both positions. God bless Ghana
