Nitra FC are hopeful defender John Mensah will be physically ready to help the side in the Slovakian Super Liga.

The powerful centre-back has landed in the central European country to sign a permanent deal with the club after agreeing personal terms.

The 31-year-old is keen to return to action to boost his chances of making the country’s 2014 World Cup squad in Brazil.

Mensah’s excellent career has been hampered by injuries but has recovered fully from a recent setback to get his career back on track.

Nitra General Manager Joseph Petrani delighted with the acquisition of the high-profile defender and remains hopeful he will be physically ready to play football.

“I do not know the last time a player with such a history came to Nitra. We took this opportunity and I believe that he will be ready physically and play soccer.

Mensah played at the last two editions of the World Cup finals in Germany and South Africa in 2006 and 2010 respectively.
