South Africa confirms friendly against Ghana

South Africa football authorities have confirmed that they will play Ghana in a friendly next month as a Nations Cup warm-up for the Black Stars.

Last month, www.mtnfootball.com revealed that the friendly has been lined-up most likely in Rustenbrug to help Ghana prepare.

Now the South Africans have confirmed that the game will take place even though the exact date and venue is still not known.

The match is among series of games lined-up for the Bafana Bafana to make up for their absence at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

Bafana will also have the honour of playing Equtorial Guinea in an inaugural game scheduled to officially open one of the stadiums where Africa Cup of Nations matches will be hosted.

South Africa Football Association (Safa) CEO Robin Petersen has confirmed the invitation from the west central African country.

Bafana will play against Zambia, Ghana and India in what will be an opportunity for Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane to run the rule over his team ahead of the tough World Cup qualifiers.

"These are some of the fixtures Bafana will play to make up for their absence in Afcon," said Petersen.

"We welcome the invitation and we hope the team will fully benefit from it."

Whereas India are known for their cricketing prowess rather than their adeptness on a football pitch, Zambia and Ghana could offer resistance for Bafana.

Zambia is one of the three Cosafa region nations who grace the Caf spectacle, to be hosted jointly by Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.

And there could be no better opportunity for Chipolopolo and the Black Stars to chisel themselves ahead of the tourney than to play Bafana in one of their preparatory matches.

Just as it remains a concern to the nation, the acute failure of South Africa national teams remain a concern for the football association.

"The big issue is around what we are doing about these failures to qualify for tournaments," said Petersen.
