The ticket prices in the South African Premier Soccer League are the cheapest compared to the world’s top leagues, and the value for money is surprisingly higher than in some of the world’s best divisions.

According to the GoEuro Football Price Index, traveling fans pay an average price of $9.59 (R131) in South Africa, while the Premier League is at top of the 25-league ranking, with costs of $82.6 (R1127) per ticket.

The new index includes factors like bus, train, and air transport to an away game as well as accommodation, food, and beverages during the matches.

The top five leagues in the Soccer Price Index are:

1) England $82.6 (R1127)

2) Spain $78.09 (R1066)

3) Italy $76.98 (R1050)

4) Switzerland $52.78 (R720)

5) USA $46.22 (R631) The German Bundesliga is only at 10th place, after offering comparably cheap tickets for an average cost of just $36.36 (R496) - while the PSL sits at the bottom behind Colombia and Mexico.

However, the study also calculated the value that fans get for their tickets (the quality of the soccer played, using several world rankings including UEFA, FIFA, and third party databases) - and in this ranking the PSL beats leagues in the Netherlands, Switzerland and the USA, among others.

The PSL sits in 14th spot in the second ranking, while the top value for price leagues are:

1) Germany

2) Spain

3) Portugal

4) England

5) Argentina
