South Africa U20 captain Madisha Modjeka says he and his teammates are fully prepared to beat Ghana on Monday in their African Youth Championship opener.

The Sundowns defender is aware of the daunting task ahead against the 2009 champions in Mbour.

Modjeka was named defender of the tournament when South Africa won the Commonwealth tournament in Russia in January.

He believes the Amajita are capable of punishing the Black Satellites to avenge defeat handed their senior side by the Black Stars at the just ended Africa Cup of Nations.

“There is always this rivalry developing between Ghana and South Africa. We know what happened at the Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea and it would be nice to get even on Monday,” Modjeka said.

“It won’t be easy considering the Ghanaians reputation in junior tournaments but I presume if we want to be the best on the continent and even the world, we should stand up against the so-called giants.

“By the time we travel to Dakar for our last match against Zambia, we should know where we stand and I honestly hope that we would have sealed our spot to the World Cup in New Zealand.”

Ghana beat South Africa 4-3 in the semi-final of the 2009 finals in Rwanda.
