Ajax Cape Town will not be signing defender Lawrence Lartey from AshantiGold, having been linked to the Ghanaian.

There have been numerous links between Ajax and the Ghanaian U20 international, following his outstanding performances at the U20 FIFA World Cup held in Turkey earlier this year.

Ajax’s initial R1 million offer, which was rejected by the Ghanaian Premier League outfit, was followed up by another bid, which also fell short of Ashanti Gold’s expectations.

The club's head coach, Muhsin Ertugral, formed part of FIFA’s technical study group at the U20 World Cup in Turkey, where the Turk spotted the 19-year-old defender.

The Urban Warriors have instead turned their attention to Golden Arrows defender, Ritus Krjauklis, who is close to reaching a deal with the Cape-based club.
