Sports Minister Mahama Ayariga reveals government will begin renovating the Accra Sports Stadium to ensure it’s up to date and able to host games for the Black Stars.

The stadium, which was refurbished to host the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, it has experienced some rusting of metals and a non-functioning scoreboard.

The pitch has also not been in the best of shapes in recent times.

Ayariga on his first visit to the stadium since assuming office admitted the edifce needs a facelift.

“This is my first time I have been to the stadium since assuming office and I must say the place is not in a good condition. In accepting that the place is not in a good condition we must also admit that the location and closeness to the sea has not helped,” Ayariga said.

“We have to all come on board and I urge the national sports authority to collaborate with us and we work hand in hand to restore the place back to its previous standard.

“I am certain that within some few months we can get this place back to shape.”
