Sports Minister Mahama Ayariga hopes Turkey trip can improve funding for local league

Minister of Youth and Sports Mahama Ayariga has returned from Turkey where he held discussions with football officials on funding local leagues.

Ayariga since taking charge in June has made moves to revive sports in the country.

He has visited the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex, the new stadium under construction in Cape Coast and the Winneba Sports College.

Last week, he was at the Marcel Desailly Complex in Accra.

Ayariga says he recent visit to Turkey discussed means of raising sponsorship for the local game.

He posted on his Facebook page: “On my trip to Turkey this week, I visited one of their best known football clubs, Fenerbache S.K. My meeting with some of the top officials was very insightful. We explored how local businesses invest in local sports and the incentives thereof. Ultimately, these discussions will help improve funding for our local leagues.”
