Sports minister Nii Lante Vanderpuye says he has sympathies for George Afriyie over accusations that he is a 'traitor' for leaking information from GFA meetings to the government official.

The GFA vice president, who is a relative of the sports minister, is reported to be having a frosty relationship with the GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi over allegations that outcomes of their internal meetings are leaked to the minister.

Even though the GFA president has denied having a disagreement with Afriyie over the reports, the sports minister who is at loggerheads with the federation says there is a rift.

Nii Lante added Afriyie has been unfairly targeted insisting he has received no leaks from the GFA official.

“George Afriyie has never come to me to discuss anything which is not official and all the times he has come to me he came with other people from the GFA,” he told Joy FM.

“He has come to me with the President before and he has never given me any information

“I am a Christian and I don’t swear but George Afriyie has never come to me. He now has a problem and I pity him because he is being demonised because of his family relationship with me," he said

“People are seeing him as a traitor and I feel pity for him. In that situation, if there is anything like a frosty relationship, then he is caught between the devil and the deep blue sea,” he added.
