Spurs fans rally for Darren Anderton testimonial

Tottenham Hotspur fans are ramping up their efforts to hand club legend Darren Anderton a testimonial.

Anderton starred for Tottenham between 1992 and 2004, making over 300 appearances for the club but despite his 12 years of service, the former England international was not paid tribute with a testimonial match.

Nonetheless, Anderton still enjoys a very good relationship with Spurs almost 13 years after leaving White Hart Lane and now fans are looking to repay their former hero by starting a petition to hand him a farewell game in order to finally thank him for his services.

Petition organiser Stephen Tracey wrote: "At the end of his Tottenham career he [Anderton] never got the chance to say goodbye and thank you to the White Hart Lane crowd.

"I am sure as a Tottenham Hotspur supporter and having watched Darren play you would agree that he deserves a chance to say goodbye.

"No better way than a testimonial match. This petition is the start of something that can hopefully persuade the correct people to make this happen.

"Loyalty is rare in football these days and Darren was certainly loyal to Tottenham Hotspur."
