Muscat: A workshop on stadium safety and security was held under the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) League Development Programme in the capital of Oman on Wednesday.
A total of 44 participants comprising local match commissioners, police, stadium managers, club security officers, national security officers and local media, attended the one-day workshop organised by the AFC Competitions Department and the Oman Football Association.
Oman Football Association Vice Chairman Mohsin Al Masroori, who gave the opening remark, asked the participants to cooperate with each other to push for a collaborative effort in ensuring an optimum stadium safety and security.
AFC Head of Stadium Safety and Security Kelly Sathiraj made the first presentation, detailing the requirements and duties of the clubs during matches. Sathiraj also shared on the AFC club licensing system, explaining the importance of licensing regulations in enforcing security and safety procedures at stadiums.
Marc Timmer, UEFA Head of Stadium Safety and Security, then touched on the history and lessons learned from stadium disasters by showcasing a set of case studies. Timmer also explained the importance of an integrated approach and concepts towards safety, security and services between the club officers, police and media.
