Ex-Ghana captain Stephen Appiah admits the Black Stars find themselves in a very tough Group at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations but insists the task is surmountable.

The Black Stars were drawn in the Group C along side 1996 winners South Africa, favourites Algeria and a rejuvenated Senegal side.

Appiah was skipper when Ghana recorded a double over South Africa in the 2006 World Cup finals qualifiers and beat Senegal 1-0 at the 2006 Nations Cup Group D match in Port Said, Egypt.

The former Juventus star anticipates the challenge will be tough for the team in Equatorial Guinea next January but the Black Stars to brave the storm.

“Let’s not kid ourselves this is a very tough group, Can we make it? Yes,” Appiah told GHANASoccernet.com

“We have to be prepared for it from the first game against Senegal.

“We have three finals already at the Group stage.

“Ghana have what it takes to beat any country in the world on our day but we all have to start serious work now.

“Time is against us but let’s dig deep and we will qualify.”

The Ghana Football Association has named Avram Grant as the new coach for the team and will lead the team at the tournament.
