Stephen Appiah scores outstanding goal to secure Europa place for Vojvodina

Published on: 20 May 2012

Ex-Ghana captain Stephen Appiah scored a stunning goal that helped Vojvodina to secure a Europa League place after a 2-1 over giants Red Star on Sunday.

The midfielder, who has seen a massive improvement in his form since moving to Serbia in January, let fly from about 20 yards into the bottom corner.

The goalkeeper failed to stop the powerfully struck right-foot high ball from the edge of the area.

Appiah's goal drew his side level after Red Stars had taken the lead in the game played in Novi Sad.

Oumaru scored the winner for Vojvodina but the margin could have been wider if the striker had scored a terrific pass from Appiah earlier in the game.

The victory on the last day of the season means Vojvodina finished third and will play in the Europa League next season.
