STOKE - O\'Neil hopes Given can grasp opportunity

Published on: 28 March 2016

Following the unfortunate injury Jack Butland suffered on Saturday against Germany - which has ended his chances of playing in Euro 2016 - Ireland manger Martin O'Neil beliveves it can at least benefit Shay Given.

'It's unfortunate about the young goalkeeper at Stoke, and I'm not picking Stoke City's team,' O'Neill said.

'But if that does give Shay an opportunity to play regularly between now and the end of the season it gives him a really good chance,' he added.

Regular first team football between now and the end of the season would likely benefit not only Shay Given, but also the Republic of Ireland as they prepare for France this summer.
