Ghana striker Richmond Boakye-Yiadom converted from the spot twenty minutes from time to give Sassuolo a narrow 1-0 win over Cittadella in the Italian Serie B on Saturday.

The 20-year-old had been limited to second-half cameos since returning from the 2013 AFCON in South Africa but he was handed a starting berth by Sassuolo manager Eusebio Di Francesco and he proved his worth by scoring the only goal of the game in the 70th minute.

Cittadella who were aiming to return from the Stadio Alberto Braglia with a decent result and push up the ladder, had frustrated the league leaders, denying them of any decent scoring opportunity.

But the visitors' resolve were broken mid-way through the second-half as Boakye expertly rifled home a penalty kick to seal the win for Sassuolo to take his season tally to ten in 15 games.

Compatriot Yussif Raman Chibsah came off the bench on the 74th minute mark to replace Paolo Frascatore.

Sassuolo have opened a 11 point lead at the top of the Serie B table.
