Dutch-born Ghanaian striker Jonathan Opoku got on target for Veendam who beat ten-man Excelsior 3-2 in the Dutch Eerste Divisie on Friday.
The 22-year-old restored parity for the Groningen-based side just after the hour mark with a superb lob after Elvis Manu had set up two goals to put Excelsior into the lead.
The Arnhem-born applied an intelligent lob to a Schmeltz rebound in the 62nd minute to put the Yellow Armies on level pecking.
Compatriot Mitch Apau was sent off in the 52nd minute after a silly challenge on Feyenoord loanee Elvis Manu.
Despite playing at a man's disadvantage, Opoku's Veendam went ahead to win the game and climb to ninth place.
