Zambia in driving seat as Sudan lose 2014 World Cup appeal, Ghana in danger

Posted On Monday, 4th March 2013

Saif Ali Sudan was ineligible to play for Sudan in their qualifier against Zambia last June

Zambia are in the driving seat in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers after sport’s highest court CAS rejected Sudan’s appeal for fielding an ineligible player, leaving Ghana in danger of missing out of the tournament in Brazil.

Sudan protested against the decision by FIFA to strip them of their victory over the Chipolopolo claiming they fielded an unqualified player which resulted in the North Africans reporting the matter to CAS for redress.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) says it rejected the Sudanese Football Association’s appeal against the FIFA ruling to award Zambia a 3-0 win by default.

The court’s ruling puts Zambia top with six points from two matches, three ahead of Ghana. Sudan falls to third with one point. Lesotho also has one point.

This means the Black Stars must win the remainder of the qualifiers in Group against Sudan, Lesotho and Zambia to be able to clinch the group’s top spot.

CAS says Sudanese officials “couldn’t not be aware of the fact that” Saif Ali was suspended and ineligible to face Zambia last June.
Ali scored in Sudan’s 2-0 win in Khartoum, four months after being sent off when the same teams played an African Cup of Nations quarter-final.
Ghana, now second on the log with three points, will need to win its two-legged ties with Sudan and an away match to Lesotho. Ghana could be fancied to beat Lesotho away and Sudan at home.
However, beating Sudan at its home is a herculean task. The decider appears to be the Zambia –Ghana clash to be hosted by Ghana.
Chipolopolo has the luxury of drawing this game or even losing it, provided Ghana stumbles away to Sudan or Lesotho and that’s assuming Zambia maintains a 100% record.

What must the Black Stars do to qualify to the World Cup?

Do you think Zambia deserve to be awarded the three points and three goals?

Ghana used to do a lot of mathematics in world cup qualifierr until the arrival of Ratomir Djucovic, and then Milovan Rajevac. Qualification become so easy n it was just a formality. But now, we have to be praying a team loses a court case, and invite Prof. Allotey for more maths. Ei hmmm. Black man in charge… Dabi dabi, 3beye yie….

  6. Selfmade says:

Akwasi Appiah is still a great coach and i believe he’ll take us to Brazil.Viva the revoluciooooon!!!

  7. PIG says:

Sorry Ghana, this is not Zambia v Ghana, its Sudan who were stupid.Imagine Zambia beating Ghana using an inelligible player, nd indeed, that player even scores!!!!The game in Khartoum was pathetic. Apart from the matter that came up, Sudan used many other underhand methods. Its Sudan here who should be villified and not Zambia, Zambia where infact the victims and putting aside this artificial rivary, Ghana should stand for what is right.

Or would they rather a cheating team gets the points? By the way, if Sudan got those points, they may just get away with it and may even qualify for the world cup. No cheating please.

    • dadaba gonshots says:

Yea, we did same against Burkina Faso some time back. We cannot complain.

    • Randy says:

Are you really sure if Zambia qualifies you have players to make Africa proud? Who are those players?
Sudan will give you the fight of your life when they come down to Ndola, do you still remember Ethiopia?. Sudanese have nothing to lose than to spoil your party. I can promise you this, Ghana will win all the rest of her matches, I don’t know about Zambia.

      • PIG says:

Interesting question, how about the team that beat both Ghana and Ivory Coast, drew with current campions Nigeria and finalists Burkina Faso. Zambia have the capacity to take any team, unlike Ghana who crumble under pressure. No offence intended, but lets face it, Ghana, like Ivory Coast fail to perform at the big stage and usually when it matters.

  8. nimo says:

I’m not confident we’ll qualify cos the coach isn’t competent enough go handle such a task. He’s not even looking to win back our best players so I won’t even put my heart into this.

  9. lalasu says:

these Sudanese are not serious. how did they think that the points were going to be given to them when the player himself was aware that he was not legible to play n had declared it?

  10. Kudjo says:

We’ll be watching Confederations cup and world cup in front of our tvs…professor whats your word on this?

  11. dadaba gonshots says:

Well, there we have it. K Appiah’ legacy

    1. Heartbreaks
    2. Hypertension
    3. Stroke
    4. Broken Marriages( the men would be very irritable)
    5. Ulcers( because people would refuse to eat or lose appetite).

6.Curses would need to be reversed as more would be rained on JKA and KN and His cronies at the GFAC

  12. cool says:

GHANA IS OUT:Please ask yourselves, when was the last time a BLACKMAN qualify us for World Cup.Appiah is horrible and, even if we qualify we shall not make it far.Until we get our house in order and priorities straight, we shall alway fail to reach the promise land.If we don’t qualify, blame the GFA and I hope every Ghanian will rise up and raise hell

  13. kalusha says:

kwesi Appia should be encouraged and given enough time to gell with his team. I’m sure he has what it takes to be a world class coach in the nearest future..

  14. tank God we are not zambians says:

we can neva qualify to da world cup wit dis puppet coach.mark my words

  15. cool says:

In our game againt Zambia, if Appiah was smart He should have crafted a strategy, that would have allow us to at least given us one point.ie force a draw.

  16. kantoose says:

zambia katongo score early against us in that game in ndola. that means we played almost 70mins and appiah was still not able to get an equalizer goal in that over 70minutes of game play. if plavi had stayed, u can tell zambia will not have beaten ghana the second time telling from how we outplayed them and even missed penalties in afcon 12.

  17. guyz pls 4get dis talk ghana is out

  18. Alhaji nash says:

Zambia deserve the 3pts and 3goals because the sudanese fielded a disqualified player in their home match against them. The hercullian task ahead of us now is to win our 2 home and away matches agains sudan, our match against lesotho and beat the Zambians at home by a margin of more than one goal.In the event of both Ghana and Zambia winning their next 3matches,the final match between them will be the deciding factor.Should we win that match by a margin of more than a goal, the head to head rule will see us through. But the big question is,how can we do all these without a TACTICIAN?.

  19. kuukuphilly says:

This decision is beyond our control,Sudan gambled and lost.we don’t see any improvements from this team in major competitions therefore if they’re going to break people hearts again then they should not even go there.I also thinks they should forget about the Ayews.

  20. Don says:

This doesn’t concern us, if we had won in Zambia we wouldn’t even been talking abt this, am telling you today, we should forget abt Brazil cos the team is being used as an experiment, and personel gains by GFA and Akwesi Appiah, it only in Ghana that we use taxes to pay for some incompent coach to experiment with our national treasure.

  21. kalusha says:

ganasoccernet, why are you people so sentimental about other peoples comment on this forum, even going ahead to delete them..i have noticed that severally…be matured…

  22. Adua says:

It’s called justice…even if Sudan had justly beaten Zambia ,we still were going to be second so nothing would’hv changed for us ,so lets just beat Sudan and pray that Lesotho beats Zambia in lesotho for now.

  23. STUPID GHANAIAN says:

Maybe forget Brazil in advance. I don’t fear Zambia but Sudan will actually finish our Brazil dream!!..

  24. Kalusha says:

I think mathematically ghana is out of the world cup, beco looking at it critically’ ther is no chance of them qualifier now, no’ i’ts over now. Start to plan for 2018? i think that is being realistic…

  25. Sunzu says:

I dont think zambia will give away 3 points to Lesotho, they are dengerus now after that disapoint outing they had in south Africa. The best that Ghana should avoid is lossing at home

  26. Adua says:

The match we in Ndola was our trump card but we instead lost.So lets just beat Sudan and hope Zambia tumbles is lesotho for now.

  27. PITO says:

what we think about fifa’s decision is irrelevant , GSN. No one asked Akwasi to go and loose in Zambia when we were already ahead on 3pts and zambia had 0 pts at the time. The important question is do we believe Ghana can win all 4 matches?

  28. Zambia Soccerman says:

Zambia just needs to win out the rest of the games and hopefully Ghana stumbles before Zambia game. Good to all the teams, Zambia had all the help, but Ghana is very dangerous.

  29. Zambia Soccerman says:

My good friends from Ghana, please don’t get mad at Zambia, its the clueless Sudanese that messed up. I hope you can all reason out that just benefited from some stupidity from the Sudanese. Either way good luck to you guys.

    • Randy says:

Ghana will still qualify with more goals aggregate. Zambia may drop some points against Sudan before meeting Ghana, that is possible because Sudanese are very, very angry. Even Lesotho will not be an easy game for Zambians who couldn’t beat Ethiopia.

      • John says:

Lesotho are waiting for Ghana in Maseru…they feel they were also cheated in that match that was played 3 hours bcos of power outages…so better watch, remember Cape Verdi!!!

  30. zambia one says:

de problem wit u ghanaians u think u de best in africa wait a minute zambia is unstopable muzalila Anyway dont wary we wil represent u wel in brazil

  31. kpoku says:

zambians are our brothers, they dont hate us like the nigerians do,so lets be decorous when talking about them.i strongly believe we will be in brasil despite the fact that our coach is daft.

  32. mcdonald says:

With J K Appiah as the coach, I don’t see how he can help the team to qualify in this tight corner considering his technical inefficiencies. God help Ghana because the gfa is playing with our Hearts

  33. fenandohussien says:

    we are out

  34. Ghanaman says:

    We will qualify easily!!

most of the negative comments are Zambian trolls and Nigerian DEVILS!!

  35. gentle john says:

Even if they give the 3 points back Sudan we will still not qualify because Kwesi Appiah is incompetent and know nothing about coaching,he will totally destroy Black Stars if he still continue as the coach,i just don’t understand why the GFA is still keeping him.

  36. Awal says:

Abedi Pele please talk to your sons..Ghana needs them to make us see Brazil, pliz Papa We will vote for u to become GFA chief

  37. Samedge7 says:

The most annoying thing is should Zambia qualify to the Worldcup,They will be the 1st country to be eliminated right from the group stage. Villagers with their big-big jerseys. Infact Zambians are not civilised at all, Nkurasefo).

  38. Carpe Verdi says:

You will be suprised to see them cruise all the way to the ULTIMATE FINAL and u’ll still say its luck. Your problem is that u think ghana is the only team in Africa, but u 4get that u not all, remember the way we outplayed you in Port Elizabeth??

  39. Joe says:

@Kpoku or whatever stupid name u called urself. U fuhcktard senseless ape. Pls baboon, Nigerians don’t care about noise makers Ghanaians because we know that empty vessels make alot of noises. We Nigerians believes in action while u Ghanaians believe in noise making. U ghanaians should continue making noises that ur this and that in Africa while ur nothing but empty vessels that make alot of noises. Ur team ,ugly baboons Charcoal Apes of Ghana have not win anything for the past 32 years. Infant Ghana team have never won African Of Cup of Nations before. Ghana only won 1960s four Nations Tournament but have not win AFCON 16 Nations competition. I respect Cameroon, Egypt, Nigeria and Zambia that have won the 21 century AFCON trophy and they are real champions. Unlike empty vessels Ghana Baboon Apes team that only know how to make noises in Africa.

    • Ghanaman says:

Every negative thing you said applies to your Baboon nation more. A 419 Empire and a filthy moronic state. Who cares what an Ape respects! Make it to the quarter final of the world cup once and you will be respected… you can’t do it Baboon!!!

you win more money in going to the QF of the world cup than winning 5 African cup of nations thropies! We already have 4 something you apes will never achieve.

What action do you believe in! Go look at the failed states index! you are on top of it. A baboon state indeed!!

  40. African Consciousness says:

Ghana must win their remaining 3 matches. They can beat Sudan, Lesotho and Zambia but it will all come down to player selection. If the Coach selects players who are in form with their Clubs and are playing first division football or are playing 90 minutes per game then Ghana should be OK. Muntari, KPB, Essien, Dede must all be convinced to return. Waris, Atsu, Wakaso, Akaminko, Badu, Boye, Mensah, Vorsah, Adam, Dauda, Rabiu, Gyan, Afful plus 6 local players. The best 2 strikers, best 2 midfielders the best goalie and the best full back. These players must all be playing 90 minutes period.
With this formula even Coach Appiah cannot screw it up.

  41. maryuka.. says:

@ghana man….it clear to me now that u are still living in a fools paradise….wake up man from ur slumber….

  42. ghana mumu……Na yo Mama and Yo Papa..bi DEVILs…..fool

  43. bawah says:

Ghana used to do a lot of caalculations in world cup qualification until the arrival of Ratomir Dukovic, and then Milovan Rajevac and qualification become so easy: it was just a formality. But now, we have to be praying a team loses a court case: we beat Mali twice and sudan twice…..With Appiah may god bless our homeland!

  44. Cheng doo says:

Ghana is a fools paradise. If you are a good footballing country why haven’t you won anything in this century. You fail even to win the CHAN..baboons
