Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari has made a bold claim that skipper Asamoah Gyan is the only legend left in the current Black Stars squad despite the presence of some other top players in the squad.

Juventus star Kwadwo Asamoah and West Ham ace Andre Ayew are among some of the players in the team touted by many as legends.

However the former AC Milan player insists Gyan is only player in the current squad worthy of such accolade.

The hard talking midfielder believes that the Black Stars need top class players and legends like Asamoah Gyan to be able to win AFCON which has eluded Ghana for over 35 years and possibly the World Cup.

The former AC Milan and Inter Milan midfielder thinks the midfield quartet of the Black Stars in the mid-2000s scared opponents and Ghana need players like that to move the extra step.

“For now you don’t see the legends anymore. The likes of Abedi, Yeboah, Arhinful, Appiah, Laryea and Essien are all not around anymore. The only legend left in the Black Stars is Asamoah Gyan because he is breaking everything,” Sulley said in an interview on the Football Legends Night Show.

Gyan, who is currently Africa’;s top scorer at the FIFA World Cup with 6 goals is also Ghana’s all-time top scorer with 51 international goals in 105 appearances.

He has been at all three World Cups with the Black Stars have been to and is currently joint scorer with Andre Ayew and Eto’o at the AFCON.
