Sulley Muntari decided to leave Italian giants AC Milan with one year left on his contract because the Ghanaian realized he was not part of the club's plans for this season.
Muntari's agent Federico Pestorello insists the termination of the midfielderââ¬â¢s contract at AC Milan was mooted byà the Ghana international.
Despite AC Milan vice president Adriano Galliani's disappointment in the decision of Muntari to leave the club, he was allowed his wish, the agent claimed further.
The 30-year-old has been cut lose by the Rossoneri despite having a year left to run on his contract.
Muntari fell out with officials of the club after learning he was not going to feature prominently in the side next season.
He even declared he was no longer going to play for Milan despite observing all club activities such as training while also taking his salary.
After joining Milan on loan from rivals Interà inà January 2012, Muntari signed permanently later that year and agreed a new two-year contract in 2014.
However, the 30-year-old midfielder fell out of favour last term and will not form a part of Sinisaà Mihajlovic's first-team plans for the 2015-16à season.
News of his contract termination thus didnââ¬â¢t come as a surprise to many as the former Inter Milan man, according to his agent was bracing himself to exit the San Siro.
ââ¬ÅHe [Muntari] realised he wasnââ¬â¢t part of their [Milan] plans,â⬠Pestorello said.
ââ¬ÅSulley is very fond of Milan, Adriano Galliani and the whole club, but realized his time at Milan was over, so came to this decision.
ââ¬ÅThis morning Galliani again showed himself to be very sensitive. He was disappointed by the situation, but this is football.
ââ¬ÅMuntari realized he wasnââ¬â¢t part of their plans and therefore didnââ¬â¢t want to be a burden to the club.ââ¬
Muntari joined AC Milan in 2012 having won a historic treble of the Serie-A, Coppa Italia and Champions League at Inter.
His role with the first team however increasingly got diminished until now that his contract is being revoked.
Ghanaian international Muntari joined the Rossoneri on a permanent basis in 2012 following a loan spell while he was a registered player with city rivals Inter Milan.
However the 30-year-old midfielder fell out of favour at the fallen Serie A giants last season, especially when Filippo Inzaghi replaced Clarence Seedorf as coach of the seven-time European champions.
Muntari made only 16 league appearances, scoring twice, as the Rossoneri headed for a mid-table finish that ruled them out of Europe next season.
Milan boosted their midfield earlier this week with the capture of Italy international Andrea Bertolacci from Roma and are looking to rebuild their squad under newly-appointed coach Sinisa Mihajlovic.
