Seoul: AFC Champions League 2017 contenders Suwon Samsung Bluewings of Korea Republic have signed veteran goalkeeper Shin Hwa-yong from Pohang Steelers.

The 33-year-old’s tenure at Pohang since his professional debut in 2004 has been remarkable. Shin helped Pohang become champions at the 2008 Korean FA Cup, 2007 and 2013 K League Classics as well as the 2009 AFC Champions League.

Shin’s two-year contract includes a term where Suwon are to loan out their goalkeeper No Dong-geon for a year in exchange for Shin.

Although Suwon finished seventh in the 2016 K League Classic, they managed to qualify for the 2017 AFC Champions League at the Group Stage when they claimed the 2016 Korean FA Cup title.

Seo Jung-won’s side will open their campaign in Group G of the AFC Champions League when they meet Japan’s Kawasaki Frontale in February.
