Singapore: Singapore’s Tampines Rovers have signed German Juergen Raab as their new head coach ahead of their 2017 AFC Cup campaign which starts on February 21.

The 58-year-old, who joined Football Association of Singapore as a fitness coach in 2014 and later worked with the island nation’s U23 team, has signed a three-year contract with Tampines.

Raab took charge of after Akbar Nawas left the club with just a month to go before the start of the new S.League season in Singapore.

Juergen felt that his work in Singapore football was far from complete after leaving the ASEAN nation at the end of 2015.

“I always wanted to come back and finish what I started. I really enjoy what Singapore has to offer, the Singapore lifestyle, especially the football,” he said on the club’s official website.

“My goal is to have the players follow me and my style; never mind the past, we have a great future ahead of us”.

Having lost their AFC Champions League Preliminary Stage 1 encounter with Global FC, the five-time S-League champions find themselves in Group G of this season's AFC Cup alongside Vietnam champions Hanoi FC, 2016 Malaysia Super League runners-up Felda United and Ceres Negros of the Philippines.
