It was a good weekend for Ghanaian players abroad from goalscorers to high performers. Ghanasoccernet.com picks its team of the week from the summary of how they fared in the various leagues.

In England:

Striker Asamoah Gyan proved his worth to net in his debut for Sunderland in their 1-1 draw with Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium.

The £13 million new signing replaced Manchester United loanee Danny Welbeck after the recess and to put the Black Cats ahead but let the winning position slip by to share the spoils.

Injury returnee John Mensah came on as an 80th minute substitute for Sunderland.

Michael Essien helped Chelsea to sustain their brilliant start to the season with two crucial goals in the 1-3 thrashing of West Ham United at the Upton Park.

Essien put the champions in front under two minutes before completing the riot with a powerful header on 83 minutes.

Black Stars shot-stopper Richard Kingson was not in the first team for Blackpool which caused another upset by beating Newcastle United 2-0 at the St. James Park.

Fulham staged a dramatic comeback to beat 10-man Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1.

Right-back John Pantsil was substituted on the 45th minute mark for Chris Baird.

Still in England but in the Npower Championship, Albert Adomah opened the scoring for Bristol City which thumped Scunthorpe 2-0 away to lift themselves out of the relegation zone.

The former Barnet targetman fired home a strike on the 16th minute.

Elsewhere at the Elland Road, Lloyd Sam helped Leeds United to record a 2-1 win over Swansea at home.

Patrick Agyemang made a return into QPR?s first team squad after a long lay-off.

The burly forward sat on the bench as they recorded an emphatic 3-0 victory over Middlesbrough at home.

In Scotland:

Francis Dickoh made his Scottish Premier League debut over the weekend and played full throttle for Hibernian who failed to bring their six-month winless streak to an end in a 1-1 draw at Inverness Caledonian.

Prince Abankwah Buaben's Dundee United recorded their first win in this season in a 3-1 win over  Aberdeen.

In France:

Defender John Boye earned his first Rennes senior team call-up but sat on the bench for Stade Rennes in a 2-1 home win over Sochaux.

There was no action for Andre and Jordan Ayew in Marseille's 2-2 draw at home with Monaco.

Andre was not selected due to suspension and Jordan sat on the bench.

Moussay Narry played 82 minutes for Le Mans who were held to a 2-2 drawn game by Boulogne in the French Ligue 2.

In Germany:

Isaac Vorsah got on the scoresheet for the second successive week for TGS Hoffenheim.

The Hoffs handed a 2-0 defeat to Schalke o4 at the Rhein-Neckar-Arena.

Vorsah headed Hoffenheim in front after 37 minutes from a corner before Sejad Salihovic doubled the home side?s advantage late in the game.

Black Stars left-back Hans Adu-Sarpei was impressive for Schalke but striker Prince Tagoe was an unused sub for Hoffenheim.

Charles Takyi made his much-awaited Bundesliga debut for St. Pauli by playing 66 minutes in their 1-0 away defeat to FC Koln.

Davidson Drobo-Ampem is recuperating a long term injury.

Out-of-favour striker, Isaac Boakye could not manage a first team place in Nurnberg's 1-1 stalemate with Hamburg SV.

In Spain:

Ghana duo Jonathan Mensah and Ransford Osei were both out of action when Granada FC were beaten 2-1 at Albacete.

Elche FC hugely felt the absence of midfield dynamo Wakaso Mubarak as they lost 2-1 at home to Real Betis.

Getafe bounced back from their defeat at Espanyol last weekend to humble newly promoted Levante 4-1 at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez.

Derek Boateng was pivotal in midfield for Getafe.

Dribbling thriller Quincy Owusu-Abeyie inspired Malaga to an astonishing 5-3 away win over Real Zaragoza.

Abeyie provided an assist for Fernando and Juanmi to score two goals in two minutes before scoring a classic goal on the 35th minute.

Holland:

Laryea Kingston's Vitesse Arnhem debut was delayed in their 2-1 defeat at Heerenveen.

Hercales Almelo went four matches without after a 2-1 loss to Excelsior.

Kwame Quansah skippered Heracles into the game.

Roda JC underlined their ambitions as the Eredivisie dark horses earned a deserving 2-1 away win over stubborn AZ Alkmaar.

Defender Eric Addo watched proceedings from the bench as his teammates battled for all three points.

Injury kept Nana Akwesi Asare out of action in the Eredivisie as Utrecht lost 1-0 away to Groningen.

Youngster Erixon Danso came on in the 64th minute but could not help Utrecht to defray the deficit.

Striker Mathew Amoah helped NAC Breda to record a 2-0 win over 10-man Feyenoord Rotterdam.

Italy:

Inter Milan recorded a hard-fought win over Udinese at the Giuseppe Meazza in a highly competitive game.

Udinese paraded Kwadwo Asamoah in their midfield but Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu was benched and Sulley Muntari played his first game under Rafa Benitez by making an 81st minute appearance.

Cesena halted AC Milan in their tracks with a 2-0 silencing at the Stadio Dino Manuzzi.

Ex-Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah was involved in the counter-attack that resulted in Cesena's second goal.

Appiah lasted the entire duration of the game but Kevin-Prince Boateng was an unused substitute for AC Milan.

On Friday in the Serie B, RegGina were humiliated 4-0 by Padova.

AC Milan loanee Dominic Adiyiah was a second half substitute for Reggina as he replaced Benito Nicolas Viola in the 69th minute.

Elsewhere in the Serie B, Ahmed Barusso played a minute for Livorno in a barren draw at  Vicenza.

Others:

Former Asante Kotoko midfielder Yusif Alhassan Chibsah scored a fantastic goal for Gefle IK but that was not enough to avoid a 3-1 defeat at Helsingborg in the Swedish league.

James Frempong was also in full time action for Gefle IK.

Former U-20 defender Jerry Akaminko helped Orduspor to demolish Gungoren Bld 4-0 in the Turkish second tier league.

Striker Yaw Antwi helped FK Vojvodina to humble Cukaricki 2-0.

In the MSL, Emmanuel Osei was subbed after recess for New England Revolution in the 2-0 defeat at Chivas.

Striker Ibrahim Salou was an unused substitute for New York Red Bull whom Thierry Henry helped them to beat Colorado Rapids 3-1.

Belgium

Daniel Opare impressed in Standard Liege's 2-0 home win over Cercle Brugge. He earned a penalty after being whacked down in the box from a surging run.

Abdul Iddi Yakeen played 56 minutes for KV Mechelen in their 1-0 loss to KV Kortrijk at away.

Israel:

Stephen Ahorlu and compatriot Eric Gawu were in full time action for Hapoel Ashkelon in their 1-1 home draw with Hapoel Ramat Gan.

Samuel Yeboah created an immediate impact for relegation threatened Beitar Jerusalem as he scored in their 2-1 away loss to Maccabi Petach Tikva.

Yeboah cancelled out Milan Marinkovic's fourth minute opener on the 58th minute but they lost 2-1.

In Norway:

Anthony Annan played full time for Rosenborg BK who failed to pick maximum points from their home game with Viking.

Annan’s intelligent midfield play aided Rosenborg for the opener in their one-all draw.

In the Portuguese Liga Sagres, left-back David Addy was the toast of the fans at the Cidade de Coimbra when Academica de Coimbra thrashed Naval 1º Maio 3-0.

Elsewhere in Greece, Bernard Yao Kmordzi helped a nine-man Panionios to bagged a vital away point from Xanthi in a 1-1 draw.

The Black Stars midfielder was booked on the 71st minute.

In Russia, Haminu Dramani managed a place in Lokomotiv Moscow’s first 18 squad but was an unused sub when they won 1-0 at home to CSKA Moscow.

Switzerland:

Ex-Ghana international Mark Edusei was a full-timer for Bellizona which lost 6-2 to Lucerne.

Samuel Inkoom played 90 minutes for FC Basel who managed to hold Young Boyz Bern at their own backyard.
