"The best team lost, says Sporting Mirren coach Ken Botchway

Head coach of Sporting Mirren Ken Botchway believes his side were the better side in their MTN FA Cup round of 64 defeat to Hearts of Oak on Sunday.

Ken Botchway’s side looked to be in real trouble after Anthony Nimo’s early opener, but they quickly leveled the scores courtesy captain Jewel Arthur before Patrick Razak’s fine strike settled the tie in favour of the Phobians.

However, coach Botchway believes his side gave a good account of themselves and deserved to go through ahead of the Phobians.

“I am not disappointed with the performance of my players but on the match itself, because we controlled the game with almost 80% of possession but their experience counted at the end.”

“Hearts are a good side, but they won this game through experience. We all know the stature of Hearts and probably the players individually might respect them but on the field of play, I don’t think they did that, they actually matched them boot to boot.”

“In the first 15 minutes, we suffered but it’s understandable because any team with young players will do same, but they picked up fast and competed admirably.”

The loss to Hearts was Sporting Mirren 5th of the season in all competitions.
