West Africa Football Academy drew blank but it was enough to maintain their grip at the summit of the log. However the musical chairs have shifted to the bottom half of the log where the battle for survival has become very tricky.

It all began on Saturday when Asante Kotoko entertained champions Wa All Stars at the Baba Yara. Kotoko were looking for their first win in as many matches on home soil. Their efforts were rewarded as goals from Obed Owusu and Yakubu Mohammed sealed a 2-1 win for them.

Berekum Chelsea and Ebusua Dwarfs settled for a 1 all draw game at the Golden City. Dwarfs led 10 minutes into the second half through Nicholas Gyan but were pegged back by a Stephen Sarfo equalizer. Okai Quaye missed a glorious opportunity to win the day for Chelsea through the spot.

Ahmed Toure’s opener for Bechem United was short lived as Medeama’s Latif Salifu canceled it out to leave proceedings all square after 90 minutes.

Bolga All Stars held league leaders West Africa Football Academy in a pulsating 0-0 encounter at the Utrecht park in Tamale.

Ashanti Gold SC seem to have buried their woes and were in scintillating form against Inter Allies at the Len Clay. Hans Kwoffie’s brace and a third from Daniel Gozah sealed an emphatic victory for the rejuvenated miners.

Two quick fire goals in the first half was enough to hand Hearts of Oak the initiative against Elmina Sharks.

Great Olympics lost yet gain at home to another Greater Accra outfit, in the shape of Liberty Professionals by a goal to nil. Michael Ampofo struck just before the halfway mark to secure maximum points for Liberty Professionals.

Stars missed yet another chance to close in on top spot as they succumbed to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Tema Youth FC at the Tema park

AN ASHGOLD RENAISSANCE ON THE CARDS

For most part of the season they have looked clueless and a pale shadow of their championship winning self. Boardroom wranglings coupled with technical ineptitude underlined the shambolic showing of Ashanti Gold SC in the first half of the season. Many had already condemned them to make that transition into the Ghanaian second tier after such a long and illustrious spell in the top flight.

Not even the appointment of former player and fan favourite, C. K Akunnor as head coach weathered the storm. Ashgold’s poor run of form continued. It looked daunting a task for the fortunes of the 4 time league champions to turn around.

However a massive overhaul in the playing personnel in the second transfer window as well as sanity in the boardroom has inspired some impressive results on the road for Ashanti Gold. After their 4-1 drubbing by Ebusua Dwarfs, Ashgold have gone 5 games without a defeat, amassing 13 points in the process. This has lifted them from second from bottom to 13th on the log, a point above the drop zone. Ashanti Gold SC seem to have buried their early season woes which saw them flirt with relegation in the first half of the campaign.

Should this string of impressive performances continue in subsequent games an Ashgold renaissance is surely on the cards.
