The Blind Pass: A weekly feature on the Ghana Premier League - A Matchday for the Strikers

Published on: 26 April 2016

Another week and another reason to make that stop over at a league centre to live through the thrills and spills of the Ghana premier league moments. Week 9 presented another testament of a league on the rise serving fans with some unprecedented landmarks.

New edubiase united needed a breather badly and it meant a herculean task to halt a resurging train. With aplomb they went to the Baba Yara Stadium saw and conquered in the week’s opener against Asante kotoko on saturday night. Table toppers All Stars regrouped and got back to winning ways at home with a comfortable 2 nil win over Inter Allies.

Bechem united yet again stumbled on the road losing 2 nil to regional rivals Techiman city FC. Dreams FC and Medeama SC were at the receiving end of a 3 nil thrashing at the hands of Brong Ahafo powerhouses Berekum Chelsea and Aduana stars respectively.

Hearts of Oak won for the first time in 9 years at the Len Clay stadium beating Ashanti Gold by 2 goals to 1. It was business as usual as West Africa football academy accounted for Ebusua Dwarfs at their favourite Sogakope stadium. Liberty professionals turned on the style and recorded an impressive 1 nil away win against Hasaacas.

THE TRIAD..

Surely when time is called on an eventful season in week 30, we will all but look back on week number 9 as a massive coup in the shape of wins away from home and strikers seizing the initiative. The art of goal scoring is an age old problem peculiar to all levels in association football and the national teams as well.

Our forward liners over the years have carved an infamous niche of fluffing opportunities which are easier to score than to squander for themselves. With such a dire characteristic hovering around, it takes individuals with impeccable mental toughness to break this hoodoo.

It is against this backdrop that the shift put in by forwards this term deserves a mention and especially in week 9 where we had a triad of goal poachers netting a brace. Yahaya Mohammed of Aduana stars is the first of the triad following up on a hattrick in midweek with a brace in his sides win on Sunday. Cosmos Dauda also stole the show at the Len Clay with both goals for Hearts.

The lanky forward also made it 3 goals in 2 games with a goal in midweek as well. Berekum chelsea skipper Saddick Adams completes the list of the triad who netted a brace in week 9. He quickly announced his presence having sat out through injury with two belters. If the statistics so far are anything to go by then the rate of goal scoring in the local league has improved tremendously and it can only get better as the weeks go by.

In a league where getting points away from home is difficult a feat to achieve, match week 9 with a hattrick of away wins could go down as the highest when the curtains are drawn in week 30. New Edubiase united tops this list of triad, defying their form and position on the league log to record an impressive win at Baba Yara stadium.

Hearts of Oak who had gone blank on a ground they previously dominated got their groove back for the first time in 9 years to make this triad. Liberty professionals who have been erratic on their travel got it right this time to complete the triad who defied the odds and won away from home in week 9. Your bet on a quintet of hattricks and/or away wins in the near future?
