Emmanuel Adebayor will join his friend and Ghana striker Jordan Ayew to reunite with coach Tim Sherwood at Aston Villa after terms were agreed with Tottenham Hotspur.

The 31-year-old striker took a tour of Villa's Bodymoor Heath training HQ yesterday and had the first stages of his medical with an announcement possible in the next 24 hours.

Sherwood made Adebayor his No 1 target to replace Christian Benteke but worried his £100,000-per-week wages and Tottenham's £5million price tag would prove beyond Villa's finances.

However, with Spurs eager to offload the Togo international, a loan deal with Villa picking up his salary but not paying a fee has been struck.

Villa could make the move permanent once Adebayor is out of contract next summer.

His arrival follows that of £8.5m Ghana striker Jordan Ayew and the two could form a partnership.

Blackburn Rovers centre-forward Rudy Gestede remains an option as Sherwood looks to boost his side's goal threat.

Adebayor, who has endured family problems, formed a productive relationship with Sherwood at Tottenham at the end of the 2013-14 season, scoring 14 goals.

Sherwood made his seventh summer signing yesterday by completing the transfer of Spanish defender Jose Angel Crespo for a fee believed to be around £500,000.

The 28-year-old did well despite his side Cordoba suffering relegation to the second tier in Spain last season.

He can play across defence but is expected to be used as a right back and central defender.

He has signed a three-year contract to follow Scott Sinclair, Micah Richards, Mark Bunn, Idrissa Gueye, Jordan Amavi and Ayew.

Crespo's arrival could see Sherwood sell centre back Nathan Baker to Burnley.

Villa are not done yet in the transfer market, with Nantes midfielder Jordan Veretout close to joining.

The 22-year-old is expected to fly into England to discuss terms following a £7m deal being agreed between the clubs.

Veretout, a France Under 21 international, would be the fourth player from Ligue 1 to join Villa this summer.
