Top Ghanaian journalist Amin Lamptey to contest parliamentary seat on ruling NDC ticket

One of Ghana’s foremost sports journalist Mohammed Amin Lamptey will contest the Ayawaso North constituency primaries on the ticket of the ruling National Democratic Congress.

An asutute football and boxing commentator, Amin Lamptey will take his parliamentary ambitions a notch higher when he attempt to unseat incumbent Dr Mustapha Ahmed.

The former radio and television anchor has the backing of the youth who sees him as the new face of the constituency.

His growing popularity has made him the toast of delegates ahead of what will be a keenly contested elections later this year.

Dr Mustapha Ahmed, the current Sports minister, has held the position since 2000 but believed to have lost support from the grassroots after failing to deliver on numerous campaign promises putting Lamptey in poll position to wrestle power from him.

Born and bred in the constituency, Amin Lamptey has held several positions in the constituency despite his relative young age.

He was the youngsest Assemblyman for the Maamobi East Electoral Area and was the communicator for ‘Zongo for Mahama’ which played a critical role in the electoral victory of Ghana’s president John Dramani Mahama.

The highly-respected journalist is a through and through member of the ruling National Democratic Congress, setting an audacious target of representing his constituent in Parliament in 2017.
