Toyota Player of the Week: Lekhwiya's Ismail Mohamad

Published on: 31 May 2016

Kuala Lumpur: Lekhwiya forward Ismail Mohamad has been named the Toyota Player of the Week for the Round of 16 second leg of the AFC Champions League after netting a brace as his team beat fellow Qatari side El Jaish 4-2 in Doha.

Needing to win by four goals just to draw level on aggregate, Lekhwiya struck first through Alain Dioko Kaluyituka but conceded an equaliser eight minutes before the half as Sardar Rashidov knocked the ball home.

El Jaish were then given a major scare as the impressive Mohamad struck twice before a Nam Tae-hee penalty put Lekhwiya three goals ahead on the night but it was not to be as Romarinho popped up with fine drive from distance to help his team qualify for the last eight of the AFC Champions League for the first time.

Mohamad completed 17 out of 26 passes and won 3 duels to accumulate an 8.7 rating as Lekhwiya restored some pride despite leaving the competition.

It was a similar situation in Tabriz as Iranian side Tractorsazi Tabriz defeated opponents Al Nasr 3-1 but failed to overturn a first leg deficit as the UAE side edged through to the quarter-finals 5-4 on aggregate.

The hosts produced two standout players on the night with both forward Farzad Hatami and defender Mohammad Iranpourian making our top five this week with an 8.4 and 7.8 ranking respectively.

The duo combined to score all of Tractorsazi's goals as Hatami's two strikes sandwiched a rocket of a shot from Iranpourian to set up a barnstorming finish to the game.

Former champions Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors had dangerman Leonardo to thank once again as he notched his third and fourth goals in three games to wrap up a 3-2 aggregate win over A-League side Melbourne Victory.

The Brazilian forward completed 31 out of 40 passes in Jeonju to register an 8.0 rating and almost single-handedly ensure his team's progress at Victory's expense.

Japanese striker Tadanari Lee rounded off this week's pick of players by scoring both Urawa Red Diamonds' goals in the second leg against FC Seoul, before keeping his nerve in the dreaded penalty lottery.
