Trailblazer Truong set to continue K League Classic adventure

Gangneung: Trailblazing Luong Xuan Truong is set to continue his career in Korea Republic’s top-flight after joining newly promoted Gangwon FC on loan from Vietnamese side Hoang Ang Gia Lai (HAGL).

The 21-year-old midfielder, who last year became the first player from Vietnam to feature in the K League Classic, joins Gangwon on a one-year deal after spending the 2016 season at Incheon United where he appeared in four matches.

On signing, Truong - who has appeared 12 times for his country - underlined his desire to make his mark in the K League Classic and help his new club reach the continent’s flagship club competition, the AFC Champions League.

“I want to become a recognisable player in the K League,” Truong said. “I also want to help Gangwon earn their spot in the AFC Champions League.”

In their media release, the club said: "Truong is a proven star footballer in Southeast Asia. We actually tried to sign him this summer but failed to draw his interest back then because we were in the second-tier K League Challenge."

Gangwon earned their spot in the top-flight after finishing fourth in the K League Challenge and winning a promotion play-off against Seongnam FC in November.
