TRANSFER MARKET / City look to extend Agüero\'s contract

Published on: 09 February 2016

Having made the announcement that Pep Guardiola will be the latest incumbent of the Etihad hotseat, the Catalan coach is said to have laid down his desires in terms of squad make-up, with City intent on securing the services of Argentinian striker, Sergio Agüero for a further year once his current contract expires.

As reported by The Sun, extending the striker's current contract - which runs until 30th June 2019 - has been established as a priority amongst the powers that be at Eastlands. Recently 'Kun' revealed his desire to ply his trade for a few more years in the Premier League, before returning to his homeland with Indepediente, where he planned on seeing out his playing days. These best laid plans may however have changed with the news of Guardiola's imminent arrival.

The appointment of the former Barcelona coach could prove pivotal in convincing Agüero to stay on at City for a further season, with The Sun reporting that: "He now earns about £150,000 per week with major bonuses on top. And the prospect of playing under new boss Pep Guardiola and continuing to be a City icon may persuade him to stay".
